My name is Marquize Fells, and I was born in Denver, CO. I lived in Fresno, CA for 4 years, before returning to CO to begin my higher education as was expected of me. During my time at the Colorado School of Mines, I traveled to Nepal, developed lifelong friendships, planned and financed Regional conferences, aided in the founding of a National Society of Black Engineers chapter for young kids in Denver, created a public speaking independent study course, and ultimately, discovered that engineering was not for me. After 3 years of studying Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at Mines, I made the decision to withdraw. I could not escape the feeling that my soul died a bit with every class that I continued to pass. I am a man of fleeting passions. I want to contribute to the arts, and medicine, and entertainment, and the science of the mind, and so much more. I want to be a holistic human being; but more importantly, I want my brothers and sister, and the generations after them, to have the same opportunity. I want to destroy the "what do you want to be" mentality, and replace it with a "what do you want to achieve" attitude. If the goal is to leave the Earth better off than we found it, why are we continuously encouraged to restrict ourselves to only impacting one aspect of the Human Experience?
